Ian Firth

Structural Engineering Consultant

Ian Firth is one of the world’s leading bridge designers, with over 40 years of experience in the design of a wide variety of bridges and other structures. His projects range in scale from the little Bridge of Aspiration in London's Covent Garden to the very large proposed Messina Strait Bridge in Italy. Ian obtained most of his professional experience with Flint & Neill (which became part of COWI in 2017), becoming a Partner in 1990. He is a former President of the Institution of Structural Engineers and chair of the British Group of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering. Ian is a trustee of charity Bridges to Prosperity, a regular speaker on the subject of bridge design, and the recipient of several awards.
